About 40,000 people attended the Mass celebrated by Pope Leo in Paysandú, one of Uruguay’s most populous cities, on the second day of his visit to the country.
In his homily, the Pope referred to the bridge linking the city with Argentina as he spoke about unity, communication and relationships between people. “Be bridge builders,” he told the faithful, urging them to forge connections, bring people closer together and foster understanding.

Pope Leo stressed that such bridges need strong foundations to withstand difficulties and challenges.
He called on the faithful to guide children and young people toward faith, stand by families, support the elderly and carry out charitable works. “Pass on the faith to future generations with creative courage,” was another of his messages during his visit to Uruguay.
