International cooperation to combat organized crime and corruption was the focus of Minister Donika Gërvalla’s meeting with Jose de la Mata Amaya, vice-president of Eurojust, the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation.
Announcing the meeting on Facebook, Gërvalla stressed that justice must operate across borders, just as organized crime networks do. She said tackling such activity requires the strength of cooperation between states.

The minister described close cooperation with Eurojust as essential, as organized crime, corruption and criminal networks extend beyond the territory of any one state. She emphasized that no country can meet this challenge alone.
In this context, Gërvalla highlighted the coordination of investigations and prosecutions, the sharing of information and evidence, and direct links between judicial authorities. She said these mechanisms strengthen institutions’ ability to tackle crime wherever it occurs.
She also stressed that criminals must not find refuge in any state and that borders cannot be used to evade the law. Likewise, gaps in international cooperation must not create opportunities for criminal acts to go unpunished.
Gërvalla expressed her commitment to further expanding and consolidating cooperation with Eurojust and European partners. She underlined that fighting organized crime requires strong institutions, coordinated international action and unwavering determination to see justice through, unhindered by borders or the power of criminal networks.
